
Samuel Wadleya biographySamuel WADLEY was born 1783/1784 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. He was the son of William WADLEY, also spelled WADLOW etc., and Mary WOMACK. He died about 1854 in Rutherford County, Tennessee. He is interred with his wife Susan on the farm near Middleton, Rutherford County, Tennessee. In about 1806 he married Susan BLEVINS, born about 1795. they had the following children:
In the 1814 Will of his mother Mary WOMACK WHITNEL (she remarried to a Mr Whitnel), Samuel WADLEY is mentioned which establishes his relationship to the mother, father and siblings. See Rutherford County probate, roll no. 259, Book 2, 1804-1814, page 288. From the very early 1800’s the family had removed from southern Virginia through the Cumberland Gap to Hardin County, Kentucky, and eventually to Rutherford County, Tennessee. There, Samuel accumulated land, some of it from John and William DONELSON of Davidson County. In September 1808 a surveyor record no. 1050 recorded Samuel Wadley possessed of 300 acres in Rutherford County on the west fork or of Stone’s River (from Tennessee's 2nd Surveyor's District – Early Survey Recording Abstracts 1808-1809.) By 1850, a few years before his death, Samuel WADLEY was possessed of some 3,000 dollars worth of real estate which was a fortune at the time.
