The Journals of Mary Louisa Tripp-Fields
facsimiles contributed by Pamela, Paula and Dorothy Sosebee

Pamela, Paula and Dorothy Sosebee have graciously contributed copies of Mary's handwritten journals that span the years 1941 to 1960.

Mary's journals, which she called her "memory book", are primarily about the World War II era when she had four sons serving. About 8 pages deal with specific family history and these pages have been added to the website at Mary's Journal.

The wartime journals will eventually be compiled and edited and added to the website.

It is noteworthy that Mary was awarded the Emblem Pin of Honor with 4 stars (representing her sons serving in the military) on August 24, 1941 at a rally for scrap metal in Bryson,A photo of Edwin Fields was put on display.

Jameson Bible notice of death of Nettie Medora Avery

Jameson bible death of Nettie Medora Avery

We recently received this image from Larry E. Crumley of Katy Texas. His wife (Sharon) is the daughter of Jerlean Cordell who lives in Graham TX. Jerlean is the daughter of Joe Holman and Gertie Tripp.

They also have a photo of what they thought was the Tripp family but is probably the Holman family. Work is underway to identify the individuals.

The Ancestors of Louisa Drake

The lineage of Louisa Drake, who married Gideon Bowdish Tripp, has long been a mystery. She was thought to belong to the family of Uriah and Sarah Drake of Bengal Twp, Clinton County Michigan. However, she cannot be found in that family in the census records.

The journals of Mary Louisa Tripp-Fields name her mother's first name and her siblings thus proving her the daughter of Uriah Drake.

The Drake family, who immigrated to Michigan from New York, were Dutch. The name Drake is thought to be an anglicanized version of DeRaet. During the 1700's there was a lot of hostility in New York towards non-English speaking people thus many Dutch people altered their family names.

Louisa Drake married 1st Gideon Bowdish Tripp. She married 2nd Henry Lackey. She and Henry are in the Palo Pinto County, TX census in 1880. Later, Louisa lived with her son William Riley Tripp at Finis, Jack County, TX.
